I am dashing this off quickly because the only thing more sketchy than cell service here is the DSL. I have to lay in a certain position, in a certain room, facing north to get in. I miss my husband so much it hurts already, and still have at least a week to go. It is 12 degrees here, and this southern girl is not happy about it. We have to leave the water dripping at all times so the pipes do not freeze up.
I am enjoying spending a little QT with Ma and Gabs, and have cleaned out closets and drawers and have begged them to move off the farm and in to an apartment in town so they do not have to worry about things like iced over gravel roads and garbage pick up.
This morning at church I was mistaken for a teenage mother (YES! I was thrilled!) and this lady was telling about they could send a bus to pick up The Son and they would feed him breakfast, lunch, and dinner for free so I could finish high school. I enjoyed telling her about my masters degree. Nosy old lady.
I am going to try to check my email again in a few days, Husband, I love you so, so, so much. Check my email for me and clean out the spam comments here.

Merry Christmas Internet! I hope you have a safe and wonderful Christmas, a peaceful and joyous New Year, and may your comment sections be plentiful.
Filed under Uncategorized | Comments (3)Internet–You are totally invited. Um, well if you know my real name, and where I live you are totally invited.
Hey Guys, guess what?! My blog is easier to use than mailing out invitations! I figure if you are not reading my blog then we don’t really want you there anyway. Just kidding. Not really. Maybe.
I know everyone is frantically trying to finish buying/wrapping/baking/traveling/stressing for Christmas, but New Year’s Eve is just around the corner. The Husband and I were thinking since so many of our friends have little kids, or are pregnant, or like to sit around more than go out to dance, we would have a very low-key New Year’s party(ish).
We are thinking DVDs on our notsohotbuttotallyworks TV, and pizza for the adults, and a pajama party for the kids. I will just lay out sleeping bags and pillows, or whatever else the kiddos need in The Son’s room, and hopefully they will sleep, and the grown-ups don’t have to worry about finding babysitters. Just in case some children (mine) will not sleep, the movies will fall somewhere in between Finding Nemo and Pulp Fiction.
We will provide cokes and whatnot, maybe everyone could chip in a couple of bucks so we do not have to eat Little Caesars craptastic pizza, and if you want some alcohol-BYOA. 8:30ish to 12:05 AM, feel free to wear your jammies.
Is that low key enough for everybody? Are we all getting old and boring, or is it just The Husband and I? Hope to see you then, let me know if you are coming, and most of all Merry Christmas!

I mentioned in a totally unrelated post that we do not have TV over on CAT’s blog. Let me clarify. We do have a TV, two of them in fact. What we do not have is cable or a dish or whatever else you have that lets you watch more than two channels. Sometimes we get three! On a clear day we can even get four! It works for the news and the occasional Scrubs rerun and that is about it.
We gave up cable for Lent almost two years ago, and could never justify turning it back on. We stuck pretty hard to the AAP recommended rule that children under two should watch NO TELEVISION whatsoever, although we did loosen up some over the summer. Not having cable just makes it easier not to cave to the temptation of plopping him down in front of Nick Jr., which would be so much easier a lot of days. I just do not have that much self-control I guess, it is better just to not have the option. Now he usually watches one DVD a day, lately it has been Merry Christmas Charlie Brown.
I also liked really bad TV. Like VH1 reality TV bad. After a particularly good Sunday School series about you are what you watch….again, it is better just not having the option.
We read more, play games together more, play one on one with The Son, read our favorite blogs more, and watch just our very favorite shows on the Internet (The Office, Big Bang Theory, Lost, Dirty Jobs). We also save a TON of money, really a lot. It is one of the reasons that I am able to be at home with The Son instead of at work. So there ya go, in this age of TiVo, we have rabbit ears that rarely work. We may be freaks but it works for us.

I am not so much feeling my blog this week. Sorry. I have more things to do than hours to do them in and I am coming down with a cold to top it all off. The Neighbor graciously agreed to take some pictures of us Huckablogs for Christmas cards and my two year old decided he just was NOT going to cooperate. Son:1 Pictures:0.
Ellie-Mae got spayed today and is spending the night at the vet. I did not realize how attached I had gotten to that little mop head, but I have really missed her under my feet today.
My parents and grandparents are crossing the country on what has been dubbed their farewell tour to see my grandparent’s siblings. Depressing, No? Also, my mom is my editor so email with any glaringly embarrassing mistakes over the next two weeks please.
Hmm. What else? Oh, I got my hair cut, and she even did my eyebrows so I no longer look like Groundskeeper Willie.

We went to the circus for MMiL’s birthday, it was fun, but either circuses have gotten smaller or my memory has exaggerated them. The Son’s favorites were the elephants.

He looked like this during their entire routine.

We also went to go see Santa last night. All The Son has said he wants for Christmas is a penguin. Um, sure sweetie. Perhaps Santa should take back the toddler laptop and transporter truck and put the money towards a Sea World fund.

Anything else? Oh, Christmas decorations are STILL in their boxes but a little progress has been made. Do you like the wad of lights in the front? The Son helped.

Happy Halloween and Christmas apparently.
The Son on Halloween, 2006, he was two-months old, and just the sweetest little monkey ever.

H was a pretty cute little lion himself. Look at that banana. The Son can inhale one that size in under a minute flat now.

Halloween, 2007, Mama took the easy route costume wise and had a little help from PBK. Do you think this spider has two extra legs?

A certain grandparent did not like this costume, she wanted him to be a clown or something instead. “Babies should not be spiders.”

He hated the hat last year. He took it off and threw it on the ground while trick or treating for UNICEF, and we never found it.

Halloween, 2008–about six hours ago. Go back and look at the lion/monkey picture, and then check out these two non-baby boys.

“I see you! Mama! I see you wiff ‘noculers!”

First we got his picture taken at a local drugstore (I’ll post those soon), then we went to a Halloween party, and then trick or treating. Did I mention that we had gone with our Stay Home Moms playgroup this morning to trick or treat at a retirement home? In other words, we have been having fun ALL FRIGGEN DAY LONG.

My parent’s neighborhood is THE place to go trick or treating in our town. Here is The Son, trick or treating my mom, and then inviting all the other kids to come inside.

The Husband wanted to watch FOX News, so my dad went trick or treating with The Son and I instead. He is who picked out The Son’s costume this year, I think he did a darn good job.

Can you tell what this is? CHRISTMAS LIGHTS!

And who was handing out candy to the kids? Santa! Sorry for the poor quality of pictures, but I was trying to be stealthy.

In a week or so his whole yard will be covered in those blow up yard ornament things. I really do not like those things. Anyway, Happy Halloween! Tomorrow is Arbor Day (it is not really Arbor day after all, but we are going to a tree festival. All the candy corn has rotted my brain), there is no candy for Arbor Day right? We have enough candy.
