Well, that was a cheery Christmas card.

January 6th, 2010

Do you like this month’s banner?  I do because that is exactly what the sky looks like here and there are THIRTY birds flying.  If you have not guessed it yet, I will no longer be in my twenties as of this month.  Who else just had a birthday?  Thehuckablog.com turned two on December 30th!  I have had the urge to go back and delete a bunch of stuff , but I guess that is not a very genuine way of doing things.  If you have the urge to read a bunch of early drivel, as opposed to current drivel, note the archives tab over on the left.

The postcard that is this month’s banner is really a Christmas card but it felt more Januarish to me. The back read:

Mr. Fred J

Union NY

December 24, 1907

Dear Fred,

I am still sick at home.  I am heartily sorry to say that I can’t send you a gift this Chris.  Love to all the family and a Happy Allelluh and New Year.

Unsigned, but came from Tunkhannock, PA, and is a different handwriting than most of them–but I guess it was someone close if they did not even sign it!  Wasn’t that a  depressing card? Sad birds on a cloudy day and hey guess what? I am still sick and you are getting squat for Christmas.

Yes it’s a depressing card, but I LOVE the banner. Also, thirty’s not so bad.

Am I the only nerd who actually scrolled back up to the top to count the birds?

  3. Ang on January 6, 2010 5:37 pm

Nope, ShoeShe, I counted them also. Nerds unite!

Reads like a current-day twenty-somethinger, doesn’t it? Kind of like a line from Sex in the City or Jerry Seinfeld.

I’m curious about the date stamped on the card. This nerd thinks that is more than thirty birds. Hey You is sure right about the sky looking like ours here, and now something is falling from it. I’m certainly thankful for this warm home.

why are you curious about the date? And there may be more birds than thirty, but there are some smudges, so it is hard to tell!

It is cheerier – more cheery – whatever – than the Christmas cards I sent out this year :) Apparently I’m not capable of taking care of two kids and doing ANYTHING else productive including sending cards. Good news…my cards are already done for next Christmas :)

I just counted again, and I came up with 30 plus a few smudges.
