A weaning party in Genesis
Catch up with what Abraham and Sarah had been up to HERE.
——————————————————————————————-
Genesis 21
The Birth of Isaac:
Now the LORD was gracious to Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did for Sarah what he had promised. Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised him. Abraham gave the name Isaac to the son Sarah bore him. When his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him, as God commanded him. Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.
Sarah said, “God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me.” And she added, “Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age.”
The child grew and was *weaned, and on the day Isaac was weaned Abraham held a great feast.

*Isaac was weaned at age five according to most scholars. Way to work those old girls, Sarah!

(edited by Hey You, sorry Biffah!)
(On my Mom’s side of the family there were quite a few of us grand kids named after those in the Bible – myself (Elizabeth), my brother (Joseph), and a couple others (Sara, Rachel, and Daniel))
We, in turn, named our daughter Mary Isabella – partly because Brian’s mothers name was Mary, and to keep the tradition alive. If we were to have a boy his name would have been Christian Parker.
I never understood why women felt sad about weaning, until I realized I had nursed K for the last time. Cut to me sobbing on my husband’s chest. Watching them grow up is such a bittersweet thing…always more fun and more possibilities, but it’s hard to say goodbye to the stages that get left behind. And now I’m sniffling, so I’ll stop and just say “congrats,” or “hugs,” or whatever is appropriate to say to someone who’s weaning!
