At least we were not wearing neon orange.

One of the two people in this picture is 26 today.   The other one is wondering why this was her favorite outfit.  One person in this picture is coming home very shortly.   The other one knows why she was afraid of bangs for so long.   One of the people in this picture is holding their sibling’s hand because they are afraid of all the geriatric almost strangers that are trying kiss them.   Oh, wait, that was both of them.   Happy Birthday JHJ.  See you soon.

My favorite part of this picture, other than your outfit, is the bandage on my knee. I’m not sure why, but I find it charming.

and look how skinny and tan all four legs are. Well our legs. There are not words to describe the other legs in the picture.

I love that both your shirt and your shorts declared you a sailor!

I’m wondering where on earth you ever found such an outfit. I don’t recall ever seeing that in Dillard’s, the Tot to Teen shop, Judy’s or any of the other strangely cute kid’s stores I used to frequent.

I also love the bandage, but it is not your style. It is far too average for such a cool guy. Happy birthday, JHJ. If you need me as a reference for job interviews, you can use me. I’d be happy to give you a glowing recommendation.

It looks as though the tummy on the left is bare, but in fact its a tan shirt on Great Uncle Glenn. Um’ Shoeshe you probably never saw that outfit at one of those stores as we could not afford to shop at the cutesie tot stores in those days that I was a SAHM. At best, it came from Target, one of our favorites in those days.

I don’t remember the cause of the bandaged knee but most likely it was from learning the ride a bicycle as that was occurring around that time. Somewhere there is a photo, perhaps taken the same trip at Disney World of Hey You in the Sailor outfit catching water spray. An even better photo was taken on that trip of Hey You and JHJ in a live oak (one of their best). At the same park is where JHJ caught on to bike riding.

This picture was taken at a family reunion revolving around a cousins wedding in North Carolina. The arms belong to a great grandmother, who at the time, would have been in her late 80’s.

Hey You’s right about those legs. We should all aspire to be as fit as we were then.

    Happy 26th birthday JHJ.

I think you misunderstood…it was a rare occasion for us to buy something at the cutsie stores that wasn’t on clearance…or at least a very good sale. Mom is the best shopper in the world and had a knack for knowing exactly what size clothing my brother and I would be wearing the following season, and would purchase sale-priced clothing accordingly. I had lots of clothes and accessories, but most were purchased for far less than retail…some was even cheaper than Wal-Mart or Target. I inherited the bargain-shopping gene from my mom. On a trip to Chicago with Hey You (and some MUN nerds) I got the cutest sweater for only 99 cents. You can’t beat that at Target.
