Hmm. Nope, still have no idea what that thing is.
Before Dr. Ang hops through my computer screen to lecture me….on Saturday evening I started running a fever, had a throat full of glass shards, and body pains a plenty. Knowing that Strep is highly contagious and that I was sleeping next to typhoid Larry, not to mention our toothbrushes cohabiting in the bathroom, I was was pretty darn sure that I had been contaminated. I took The Husband’s antibiotic knowing that I could call the doctor on Monday morning to get my own prescription. I would then take the pills out of my bottle to put in The Husband’s so that we both got our full doses and prevent becoming the Motel 8 for superbugs. Things I was not expecting that put a wrench in this plan? Mystery lump and apparently since my darling husband outweighs me by sixty pounds, his dosage is just a tad higher than mine…by about 500mg a day.
The people at the openallthetimeandmayletyoudieinthewaitingroom medical center said I was not allergic to penicillin but agreed with Dr. Ang that it was a stupid thing to do. Mystery Lump? Slap some hydrocortisone cream on it and let’s see what happens. Now I know. A Masters in International Politics does not in anyway equip me to diagnose myself (although I was right about the strep throat). What happened to the Mystery Lump you may ask? (Or maybe not, you may find the inane drivelings of an OCD hypochondriac a tad boring. Sorry about that. Go see what those LOL cats are up to.) The lump got worse.
After a night tossing and turning and itching and hurting and throwing various toddlers and dogs off of my stomach, I went to my actual doctor this morning. She? Was not sure what mystery lump was either. After some poking and hmmming and getting her partner to look at it, they have it narrowed down to either cellulitis, or a brown recluse bite. A spider bite. THAT I GOT IN MY BED WHILE SLEEPING OMFG! I got an amped form of antibiotics and some steroid cream that should fix both of those things.
Did I mention that we have not had health insurance since March first? And that our new policy kicked in on Saturday? So all these doctors I have seen in the last two days? COVERED! Awesome timing there germs, or spider. Whatever.

I’m glad that you got your own dose of antibiotics. And I was only yelling at you because I care about you and you should know better. Also, supremely happy that you now have insurance. Yay!! I got bitten by a spider while sleeping over at a friend’s house in junior high. It was on my leg and frighteningly large and VERY red. But, I’m happy to report that I now don’t even have a scar.
At least you should be feeling better today or tomorrow. The nice thing about strep is that it responds to antibiotics VERY quickly, usually within 24-48 hours. You will be back to your old self before you know it.
Also, I’m chomping at the bit to see pics of Ellie Mae (is that the name you settled on?) after the grooming. Bring on the cute little dog!!!
Remember the “Boob Boo” post on ShoeShe. I never posted a picture, because of the…umm…private nature of the spot in which the damn spider decided to bite me (on the boob if you’re not familiar with ShoeShe or with the title of the post listed above). And yet the lump you’re describing sounds an odd bit similar to that bite (at least when it first appeared). I got three prescriptions for mine from a plastic surgeon, but that was because mine had already digressed to the point that it had started eating through my flesh. It has been several months, and I still have a dang pinkish scar on my right breast. I’m reminded of the Far Side comic…”Bummer of a Birthmark, Hal.” Whatever.
I hope you guys are feeling better soon, as I can’t wait to see you!
I will say (but please don’t tell Dr. Ang) that I keep several antibiotics in my nightstand at varying dosages (50 mg, 100 mg, 200 mg), because my doctor is a family friend and will put refills on ALL my prescriptions for me. Usually, I’ll call his office and tell him what’s going on and then he’ll prescribe something (usually I already have it at home and don’t have to go out while sickly). Or, if it is on the weekend, I self-medicate until Monday. If you make sure it isn’t too high a dose for you, then it is probably okay.
Oh, and for the record, I don’t abuse prescription drugs, and I don’t take too many antibiotics. Stop worrying!
Oh, and hey! Guess what!!! I’m officially off of my heart meds!!! YAY!!!
We’ve missed you at storytime. I’m so sorry you feel bad. Can I bring you some food or do anything to help? Its so hard to all be sick at once!
hugs
becca
Hey Becca! So glad to “see” you here! We are feeling much better, The Husband is going to work tomorrow, The Son just has the sniffles, and all that is wrong with me is that my arm is hurty/itchy. We do miss story time too, but to be honest, The Son has been very….we will go with wiggly and not rotten…at story time lately! I think I need to take him to the park before next week so that he gets his wiggles out. Or is it canceled for Thanksgiving?
Shoeshe–yay! on the heart meds, but this does not give you the ok to take diet pills! Do you want Ellie to sleep at your house on Friday night or should I find a dogsitter?
Ang–We love you too. Pics of Ellie really coming tomorrow, The Husband was too whiny to put them online for me and I STILL do not know how to do it.
Is your dog sitter available? I don’t think my mom would go for an un-potty-trained Ellie in a house full of three MALE miniature dachshunds who already mark each other and are pretty territorial. Oh, and we put up our Christmas tree already, so there’s no telling how four dogs would react to it.
Oh, and FYI, fans are supposed to wear black to the game this weekend…some sort of black out thinky and it’s senior night. I have one black _SU fleecy shirt, but the rest of my _SU stuff is the other school color. Just bring something warm and black.
